When we schedule our move we were advised that the move would take 4-6 business days before the container was delivered to Missouri from Arizona. The container was ultimately supposed to be delivered at our new place in Kansas City on June 15th. We have been calling rat pac/zippy shell since June 7th to get a status and we have been given no answer. Finally today June 14th they informed us that our pod is still in the Phoenix storage facility and they don’t know when it will be delivered. When asking for a ETA all they said is they are working to get it delivered ASAP but they don’t know when it will actually be in transit. When asking about compensation they said they can’t discuss until it reaches Missouri. Yet we are worried we might not see our belongings again. The company has no answers for us on when our belongings will arrive and when we call in to discuss our pod we just get the run around. When my girlfriend asked to speak to a manger the representative told her that the manger couldn’t do anything more than him then he told her they couldn’t speak to a manger because they were all in training for the week. I called back later spoke with a lady she had no idea what was going on then when I asked to speak to a manager or supervisor she transferred me to the guy that told my girlfriend there was no manager to talk too. The process has been a headache and we still have no answers. Wouldn’t advise using this place.

Worst company ever to work with. They delayed my drop off. In order to get my furniture in a timely manner, I had to add labor which was obviously a scam. When i did receive my things, I found that my TV had been smashed and after waiting 60 days to hear back from the claims department, they refused to reimburse me. Use caution in signing with this company. It won’t end well.

Headache from the time pod was delivered

DO NOT USE - added an additional 20% in charges not quoted!!!

UPDATE 5/26/2021 - Took them a week to return my call but they did. Transportation Subsidy and Repositioning Fee of $415.41 should never have been charged so they say and they did refund that. Still got hit with an excess miles fee of $155 though. When they say they only charge when you are outside a 60 mile radius of the storage facility that is not true. The 60 miles is round trip, so it's a 30 mile radius. Our property is 39 miles, but they take the long way there and are counting it as 49 miles one way. They don't tell you that radius is a round trip not an actual radius from the facility. Lesson here, clarify everything, every single thing. And always question the additional charges. And be prepared with this company to have additional charges added.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! We loaded up our stuff and they picked up our container yesterday. I was given a quote and verified over and over that there would be no additional charges. Today they charge my card an additional $570.61!!!! Trying to say it's for excess miles and some transportation subsidy and repositioning fee. First of all, we decreased the miles we are moving from the storage facility that was originally quoted. DECREASED! So in my opinion they should owe me money, but they are cahrging $155.20 for that. Then they added $415.41 for the transportation subsidy and repositioning fee. My original quote was $2,962 total for all fees and everything. Now they charged my card an additional $570.61. That's 20% additional! HUGE HUGE difference. Extremely manipulative. Customer Service rep said they have several complaints about this and offered to reduce the $415.41 to $100 and I said NO. This is wrong and should be illegal. They are taking advantage of people moving right now. Totally WRONG! Let me also add that they are nearly impossible to get ahold of, probably because so many people are calling and complaining about this. They now have all of our belongings so it puts us in a horrible situation. It's like being held for ransom.

Expect the worst

This is not a 1-star review because at least some of the people working for this company (drivers, some customer service reps) were genuinely nice and helpful, and my stuff did in fact make it from point A to point B. However, there were problems along every step of the way, and it added a ton of stress to an already highly stressful move.
First, due to either human error or a glitch in the system, my container drop-off date was somehow rescheduled to be several weeks LATER than the pickup date. I only found this out the morning of the day it was supposed to be dropped off, when I hadn't heard anything from the company. After repeated calls (each one requiring plenty of hold time) and working my way up the customer service ladder, I was told at the end of the day that I would have to wait two more days to receive my container--the day before I was set to leave the state. There was nothing I could do but hope that they followed through on their promise that I would be the first stop to drop off the container that morning, and the first to be picked up the next morning before I left.
The driver did show up more or less on time that day...with the wrong size container. He had to drive back to the facility and load up the correct one. When it did arrive, the container was fine, overall, except for the top latch not, you know, latching.
Pick-up was fine, I didn't have great cell reception and no longer had wi-fi, so if the driver tried to contact me it didn't go through. I went out to check and saw him driving away with the container.
The container was scheduled to take nearly two weeks to arrive (why so long? U-Pack took less than a week for the same distance). The day before, I get a call saying it's been delayed, and I would have to wait another week. Honestly I kind of expected it at this point.
Container finally gets dropped off fine. I had originally scheduled it to be picked up 5 days later, just in case we needed the time. Turns out we only needed 2, so I called to let them know they could pick it up earlier if they wanted to. The agent said they could get it a day earlier; I said sure, if it's not too much trouble.
Apparently it was too much trouble. I get a call from the driver that afternoon, saying he'll be there in about 3 hours and 45 minutes. This was at around 3pm. A short time later, I get a text from the driver saying that they would not be able to pick up the container that day. I asked if they would get it tomorrow, then, and he replied that he didn't know, and that his boss would tell me.
Well, I didn't hear anything from that boss. Or from anyone, until the next morning (today) when I get an automated email giving me a heads up that my "appointment" was coming up...in 3 days. Another call into customer service, and I'm told that it must have been the facility directly, because the service department hadn't touched my account recently. She confirmed that their schedule looked full until then, and beyond, and there was nothing they could do about it.
So here I am, writing this review, with this container blocking a bunch of space in front of my house and annoying my neighbors.
Do I recommend 1-800-PACKRAT? Only if you have no other option. In my previous move, I used U-Pack and had no problems whatsoever. I would have used them again, but they were completely booked. Try and book early and find any other option you can, or you're definitely taking a gamble using this company.

My experience with Pack Rat

They did not show up with my container within the ETA givin. I had to call and they said that the containers didn't get delivered to the facility so they were unable to deliver it. Yet they didn't call to tell me that. They said they could not tell me when it would get delivered. So I am moving across the country and have to have my stuff out of my house and fly out 3 days from then. Worst possible scenario from a place that does this for a business. I was forced to cancel and luckily I was able to get a container from pods on the day before I had to fly out. It also cost me $500 more on top of having less than a day to pack my whole house. Whole thing was a nightmare experience. When I asked if I could get compensation for having to pay extra to another company they said the only compensation I could get was no cancellation fee. Really? Go with PODS, it's a little more expensive but 100% reliable. Stay away from Pack Rat. It's not worth the risk.

A perfect experience from the first…

A perfect experience from the first call to reserve my container until the pickup of my empty container a month later when my move was complete. The CS team was very helpful, the drivers and people calling to remind me of pick up and drop off days/times were terrific. It made a difficult endeavor (moving from Cali to TX) a little easier, and for that I'll forever be grateful!

I loved using 1800PackRat

I loved using 1800PackRat. The customer service was excellent. I was able to schedule a delivery within a short time. Scheduling delivery to my new home was seamless. I also used PODs for my move. I wished I had used 1800PackRat exclusively because the container was waterproof. I had moisture issues wit PODS. If needed again, 1800PackRat is my only choice.

My experience with Pack Rat was…

My experience with Pack Rat was amazing. Being a mom with a toddler & my husband working full time, packing to move was already super stressful and time consuming. Pack Rat made coordinating/scheduling for my delivery & pick up super simple. It saved me the hassle of worrying about additional charges from movers that could have occurred during the move process. Every agent I spoke with for Pack Rat was exceptionally nice and helpful. I highly recommend Pack Rat to anyone looking for an easier way to move. Pack Rat always called a day or two prior to pick up or drop off as a reminder and the driver always gave me a 30 minutes heads up to arrival. Thank you Pack Rat for helping my family during such a stressful time in our lives. You guys made the move a successful one. Thank you!

We were very pleased with Pack Rat when we moved from western New York to Florida. Everything went very smoothly. We would highly recommend Pack Rat to everyone.

Pack-Rat Was Perfect For My Garage Project

The Pack-Rat temporary container was perfect for my garage cleaning project. Ordering and communication was done easily online. Delivery and pickup was as scheduled. I was very pleased with Pack-Rat and would use them again if needed.
